Thursday night circle walking

I walked around in circles for 55 minutes this evening, and as usual quite enjoyed it :).
It is going to be extremely difficult to motivate *myself* to practice, but I have to, for health. So I will find a way.

Bagua

Last night during my training, after some circle walking, it was beat up the teacher night! I always love those nights the best! Lol I find that sort of thing to be a lot of fun. Actually I should say it *would* have been beat up the teacher night if I could get a strike in edgewise. Actually he did let me get some in, but less than usual, to up my skill a bit I think. Really annoying was that he kept smacking me in the face, not hard obviously, a tap to let me know I’d missed blocking that one. However it frustrated me to no end! If I miss a strike to somewhere else on my body I can think “oh I wasn’t looking there, must look more areas”, but when I get smacked right next to where my damn eyes are, well shit, no excuses LOL. I also have this weird fear of being hit in the face. Guess I’ll be over that one eventually at this rate. I prefer this sort of practice with my teacher since he has such good control of how hard he hits (that whole being experienced at this sort of thing), unlike most other people I would try it with. Him and I are working on toughening me up a bit. It’s sort of slow going.

In other news, I immaturely and stupidly got caught up in the local bagua politics. I won’t go into any more detail, since I already posted about it on a very large forum, and I don’t think I want to embarrass myself any further here. Anyways, I am now getting myself very much less involved in such things. It is unfortunate that this sort of thing happens, but it does. What I hate the most is to see decent people hurt, and I don’t mean physically. I now have to decide how far to pull out of the local MA community.

I skipped my circle walking last night <-- slacker, since class was pretty tiring, and I was pretty exhausted on other levels as well. I will definitely get a good dose of it in this evening however, and am very much looking forward to it :). I am again trying to up my amount of circle walking each day, as well as my amount of QiGong. I think I will progress a bit more slowly this time.

A very awesome practice today! :)

I’m still recooperating from overdoing it over Christmas and boxing day, so I took it easy this evening. Only did 55 minutes of practice.

Did the warm up walk around, then the Zhan Zhuang for about 5 minutes. It was amazing that I felt no pain at all this time. I have been focusing more on the Qi, and using a few Qi pointers I learned in last night’s lesson, it is definitely helping. Then I did the difficult as all hell slow and focus on balance type of circle walking for about 15-30 minutes, then the relaxed walking and 8 palms for however long that takes. Yes I know I’m supposed to time everything, but I just wanted to relax and enjoy the practice this evening :). I did actually really enjoy tonight’s practice. I perhaps should be working harder and doing the lower walking, but y’know, life was sucking a bit too much when I was doing that, I was about to say fuck you to bagua. I think pushing myself is good, but pushing myself too far is not so good.

Fortunately last night I just walked into my lesson and straight up (I never have been able to be anything but, it’s good sometimes and bad others) said “the weekly schedule is NOT working for me at all”. So we discussed it, and I asked if we could try *my* schedule for awhile lol. Obviously I would base it on his, he does have 34 more years with martial arts then I do afterall, but also I know what works for me and what doesn’t. I think we will find an unhappy medium. This was a much better option then just doing whatever the hell I wanted then worrying if he would ask if I practiced or not. Fortunately said teacher is extremely patient, and went for it. Now we can fine tune it to what I NEED to do/know. Unfortunately he says the low circle walking is very important, but at the same time that is the bit that seems to leave me drained for days for whatever reason.

All the nifty Qi and other stuff I learned last night, really helped out in practice today, and helped me understand some things some more. I guess he didn’t teach this sort of thing to me before because I wouldn’t have been able to use it, or he’s just cruel and sadistic (that is a joke).

I really missed circle walking over the few days I just couldn’t muster it, and am glad to be doing it again. I hope to get up to my 2 hours per day practice, on none class days) again, and 1 hour on class days.

Soon there will be that 100 day thing, so that will add some variety to my practice. I just hope I can learn from video, they have never made sense to me before. However, all I have to do is practice and blog each day, the 100 day challenge information said nothing about getting the exercises correct ROFL. Actually I’m pretty sure the same stuff will be covered in class each week.

I also feel much better after circle walking and the “Zaquan Qigong” this evening :). I have been having some odd insomnia problems (oops guess they were right about late night bagua and/or qigong perhaps not being the best plan lol), so I’ve ended up a little worse for wear during the day.

Best Bagua class ever!

Yeah OK so the past month of training and practice has sucked for me (accept last Tuesday’s class), whatever, doesn’t matter cause tonight’s class just fucking rocked! I’m really hard to impress, it’s just the way I am. However I am now quite impressed with the Bagua training. Before I was impressed, hence why I stuck around even though I really was unhappy with a couple of things (mainly that damndable schedule), but tonight just topped it off. I was pleasantly surprised with the information and teaching this evening. I also loved the flinging me across the room with barely any force techniques. I sorta kinda was able to do it after being shown lol. What I’m happy most about is that I now know Bagua does utilize all the other stuff which I have trained for all those years before I knew Bagua existed.

John says it’s alright, I’ll be complaining about Bagua again in about 3 days LOL. Yeah well maybe his first few months of Bagua went a little smoother 😛 😛 :P!

Anyways from tonight’s class, I have a lifetime of things to work on, not just a week or few months or years worth. I’ll just have to remember this class next time I think John and Bagua are only put in this universe to make me miserable and torture me.

Only one week to go! :)

Now that I have been able to get out of bed today, I’m much more optimistic about Bagua. Doesn’t mean I will do any today, since I want to make sure I am fully functional tomorrow… but I’m really looking forward to this 100 days thing 🙂 I sure hope I can do Bagua every single day for 100 days! I’m not entirely sure how much practice is required each day or not, or how many days we are allowed to skip if we don’t feel well (aka can’t get out of bed that day). Also, I will be spending a couple of weeks of that 100 days down in WA state, and another week in California. Should be interesting keeping my practice up.

So that 6 week bagua better work for my health challenge I put below better work out. I will keep blogging here during those 100 days. However on about the 30th I will be deleting any posts which I feel aren’t good for public consumption, such as my whining about Bagua, my classes and so forth.

Bagua has 6 weeks to prove itself being good for health

I started doing Bagua more seriously, and incorporating the martial aspect for exactly 15 weeks now. The first 6 weeks was awesome and I was amazed. However since then its seemed like a steady health decline. I can see how it would be good for health and the intestines, and it’s wonderful for my back pain (which is mostly gone now). However, being able to work to pay for such things as rent, food and Bagua lessons is sort of necessary. So is being able to do activities besides sleep and Bagua. Perhaps I’m just pissed because I’m missing some xmas family dinners due to being unable to travel today, but then again this is also getting old. I haven’t worked more then 2 hours per day since the last week in October.

So Bagua has 6 weeks to prove itself ;). I think I will formally announce this next time I circle walk. If I end up in bed the next day, I’ll know that Bagua has an attitude lol.

Actually, if it doesn’t show health benefits within the next 6 weeks, I will instead just not listen to a thing my teacher says and just practice how I like. I do enjoy the circle walking and so forth. Hopefully said teacher has better things to do on xmas then read my blog lol.

Why 6 weeks you ask? Because that is how many more lessons I have pre-paid and promised to take. There are 3 lessons per week, so that is 18 more lessons. I figure at this rate, either it will start to work, or I will get so ill I will stop going to classes. I hope the former since I would really like this Bagua stuff to work, and also I’d really hate to see pre-paid classes go unused. Also, after 6 more weeks, that will have been 21 weeks of Bagua, which I think is long enough to be able to evaluate something for it’s health benefits or lack thereof.

I feel 100X better!

I might be able to walk a couple of blocks today even. I however don’t feel like I’m getting worse rapidly. Perhaps my current Bagua training is a little much for my present health.

I can either a. just ignore my teacher’s advice and just do what I feel up for each night.
or b. oh forget b., I want to be functional during the holidays ;).

I don’t think I could even do QiGong for very long right now, unless it’s laying down QiGong. Sitting up hasn’t happened yet, and it’s been an hour since I woke up.

I have a class on Monday, I have this funny feeling we will need to rework my weekly schedule just a bit.

No practice today in leu of being functional tomorrow

My teacher says don’t break Bagua, keep practicing no matter what. However last night it felt more like Bagua broke me, and not in a good way. Since I’m on day 2 of not being able to sit up, I don’t think Bagua is a good idea this evening. Unfortunately I can’t stand up for longer then about a minute or two, so QiGong is out as well. It looks like I will have to wait to start my hour per day, or look up some laying down QiGong exercises.

At this very point, I do not trust that Bagua is good for health. However in the future my opinion may change. I’m definitely not ready to give up yet, but am very ready to take a day off. I unfortunately had to cancel TWO Christmas dinners due to lack of being mobile. I will be attending the third invite though since it is with my “kids” (a bit old to be called kids really lol), so I will just make sure I get over there no matter what.

I just hope JS goes easy on me on Monday! I’m glad I don’t have classes this weekend because for the first time ever I would have had to say I can’t make it.

Happy holidays!

Not that anyone reads my blog (I haven’t announced it publically yet), but hey, just in case ;).

What is up with the 10 different Baguas?

Seriously, if you search on the net for a Bagua diagram there are at least 10 different arrangements. Pretty amazing for something with only 8 sides.

So the other night I brought my Bagua painting in to my teacher to see if it was correct. Uhm no, it was not :(. Apparently copying the Bagua mirror one which I bought in Chinatown was not a good idea. So we went over it and he told me the corrections. However we both got extremely confused since there were so many corrections :(. I think we got it right in the end. However, this morning upon comparing the painting with the circle I walk downstairs, one is wrong! So it is entirely possible I have been walking around in an incorrect Bagua octagon for 3 months. Since it is only made out of painter’s tape, that shouldn’t matter right? The mirrored ones I have up are also wrong, as is my Bagua necklace. Now if all the “wrong” ones matched this would be a little easier.
