I walked around in circles this evening ;)

I was still pretty trashed from the food poisoning or whatever the hell it was the day before, so the day consisted of mostly napping, then 5 hours of work. At about 1:30am I decided I’d better get my Bagua practice in since taking 2 days off in a row just isn’t right no matter how tired I am.

I walked counter clockwise a bit more then clockwise so I could work out my healing ankle a bit more. I’m allowed to do heavy lifting in one more week, so I figure it should be about healed, however it is not quite yet. I still don’t have full mobility. I also focused a lot on balancing a lot on each foot as I did the stepping. It’s nice to have enough ankle flexibility that my strides are a little longer now. I did a little bit of brick walking at the end since I enjoy it, and it is a wonderful workout for my ankle, even if some folks think it’s useless.

I spent my entire practice in the earth palm mud walking. That’s it. Well that and the meditating on the energies in my body with my arms out to my sides thing.

I feel practice went well. However how long I practiced for, as well as any experiences during practice will not be blogged about since I “got it” that I’m doing it all wrong, and I suck at Bagua, and prefer not to be reminded by more then one source. Being a newbie sucks!

I’m pretty sure that after reading 58 days so far of this blog it is likely getting a trifle boring so I will add a nice video for entertainment….

Meetup today was canceled :(. This is probably a good thing really since I wasn’t able to get out of bed until about 6pm. I still missed it though, and would have at least tried to last right up until the end. However for some odd reason John thought that 8″ of snow and being unable to get his truck out of the driveway was a good enough reason to cancel the meetup. Even stranger was that he didn’t seem to like my suggestion he take the skytrain into town for the meetup ROFL. So after I was done mourning the lack of group Bagua today, I took a nap.

I also focused a lot on balancing a lot on each foot as I did the stepping to help strengthen my left ankle again. It’s nice to have enough ankle flexibility that my strides are a little longer now. Got a little practice in

Aside from class yesterday I got some practice in at Blogger1’s house, as well as bus stops on the way home at 1am. We made tacos and she helped me sew some altar cloths :). The buffalo meat was really good for tacos, yum! However today I think my lunch earlier in the day which had some greasy short ribs, as well as the cheese content of the tacos did me in. Spent the day in bed today eating charcoal tablets :(. Not so sure I’m going to be able to practice today. Yesterday I did some circle walking some TEA CUPS (hey not my fault there’s no new Bagua video up LOL), and some other stuff which reminded me I have abdominal muscles.

Abs so sore I couldn’t even sit up today lol

Too much Bagua, or too many leg raises, or wearing my ankle weights, I’m not entirely sure. I’m having trouble sitting up, laughing, coughing and going to the bathroom they are so sore. It happened rather suddenly, and have been sore for 3 days now. Needless to say I’m skipping certain exercises mostly until things hurt slightly less. I let out a rather loud yell as I was hit (lightly) in the ribs during class this evening… I think John really wondered why on earth that would have caused pain!

Class this evening was a lot of fun, and John was extra cool and supportive today. Fortunately he also has a huge amount of patience, especially regarding my walking out of class last week lol. This class I took the attitude of just loving Bagua and practicing my Bagua instead of being concerned about what John thought of my circle walking and turns. I also managed to not fuck up the turn arounds.

I hope to see a new 100 days of Bagua video soon… if there is not a 100 days vid soon, I will start posting long descriptions about my errands around town, as well as punk rawk videos!!!!

I worked instead of practiced today

I did quite a bit of work today, and by the time I was done, and had finished the cleanup process I was so exhausted I fell asleep with my clothes and the lights on. Needless to say there was not any Bagua practice today. I will work a bit less and do more Bagua Friday to try to make up for it. On a side note, I was going to do some night hiking this evening, but it turned out it was going to go down to -17 counting the wind chill. The hiking was postphoned for obvious reasons! It is fortunate that I postphoned Bagua class for nighthiking, then canceled night hiking since I was out cold most of the night lol.

I have a set of 5lb ankle weights now

My left ankle is looking at them in fear. My thighs are also having a little trepidation about them as well. I think I will take them out of the box today.

A positive Bagua experience :)

I have been getting very discouraged lately due to my crappy memory and not being all that good at Bagua (newbie here). The discouragement just kept getting worse, without enough awesome times. I was sort of thinking I was a lost cause Bagua wise, especially after the last class. I don’t have the best health, and not exactly sure which learning disability I have, but it involves the inability to translate physical movements from one angle or direction to another, as well memory blanks.

This wouldn’t be as annoying if I didn’t get A+ most often in college. I’m used to excelling at things, always being the top of class, getting things within minutes (unless there was memorization instead of logic needed)… and so forth. Then I started martial arts and found the one thing (besides drumming) which I am horrible at. This was a huge blow to the ego.

I’m not sure why but I’m having a really difficult time coming to terms with the fact that I’m not awesome (for a newbie) at this stuff. I used to do best or second best at sports in school, why not Bagua? I practice more then most from what I hear, and it still doesn’t work. The level of frustration has been driving me up the wall and killing my self esteem. This is very obviously something I really need to work on, but I have to say it is very rough going.

Well doing Bagua today was a positive experience for me. I didn’t practice the turn around stuff that I suck at, I just really didn’t feel like doing something I just don’t *get* today, I just felt like enjoying Bagua practice, so I did what I needed to do to have a very positive Bagua experience. A little circle walking, a little back flexibility and some Bagua stuff which is considered blasphemous by certain teachers I know (hey I like teacups OK lol). I really didn’t care, I just needed a positive experience and to learn something, even if I end up being the only one who felt I learned something this evening, that is OK.

I have found no matter how much I practice, or what I do, it doesn’t help at all, and apparently it’s not obvious I did said practice, so why torture myself right? I do know however how important circle walking is, so I will try to get at least an hour per day of that in, on the days I’m not too trashed. However I am done going on about how long I practice each day, who cares if it’s 5 minutes or 2 hours, as long as I feel I’ve practiced, and admitting I do 2 hours only leads to me getting VERY defensive when people even *suggest* I might not be serious, or might not practice enough, or might not be good at something. I’m going to try not giving a fuck for a time, and see how that goes :). I will only give a fuck about my circle and walking it, not what others think, not how things *should* be done, not if a certain exercise is prober damn Bagua or not.

No worries, I’m sure I will take better teacher advice and listen better in a month or two again after I’m done feeling like the worst damn bagua practitioner in existence.

Well shit :(

Had class tonight, and kept losing track of which direction I had originally been walking :P. Then John asked how I can possibly write in my blog that I practice for an hour per day (actually I usually do 2 hours), and not be able to remember which direction I’m going during the turnarounds. It was then I realized how much I must really suck at Bagua. I left the lesson early. How I’ve managed to take this many private lessons, and practice so much and still be this terrible at Bagua I’m not so sure. Apparently lots of practice does not do it. Don’t think I’ll bother to practice tonight as it does not help any. Perhaps I will practice tomorrow since I enjoy mudwalking.

Btw, trying out some 2.5lb ankle weights, for ankle strengthening. I am working up to 5lb ones. I’m starting with 2lbs though since my ankle isn’t 100% better yet, and those are what Blogger1 had for me to borrow LOL.

Update, I did some circle walking with the ankle weights, it was actually easier to do the hip lifting, I think because I could actually feel the lift, as well as had something to pull up against. However the ankle weights made it a bit more difficult to balance. Unfortunately my ankle is still tender and I couldn’t wear them for very long, only had the ankle weights on for about 2-3 hours, just walking around, before they really started to hurt.

There should be a standardized epsom salts discount for people who practice Bagua! Well OK perhaps just for out of shape crappy health people like me who have been in a couple of very bad car accidents. My ankle hurt lots today; the focus was on stuff which might help my back, no circle walking. The circle walking was yesterday, and will be tomorrow (ankle willing).

However unfortunately sometimes things which may be good for your back in the long run can hurt a lot at first, especially when done for 2 hours in a row. There are muscle relaxants involved this evening. I think I will sleep well lol.

Did some of that ever so awesome back stuff such as Fan Zhang using as much full body as possible, tea cups (sorry John), and other twisty stuff trying to use my full body :).

So, Bagua now 2:, myself 0 lol. I’m sure these numbers will change around in a few months when my back gets stronger.

How discouraging

Due to my crappy health, bad memory, new to Bagua and just not being naturally good at martial arts, I am not very good at Bagua. Because of this I decided I will just train more, take more classes and so forth to get half decent at Bagua. However I don’t think my plan of action is working unfortunately. I did so terrible for most of the meetup today it wasn’t funny! I just wasn’t getting any of the movements, and couldn’t figure out what John meant by each thing he told us to do. I also had a terrible time catching on to the new ones I didn’t yet know. The only thing I did any good at was the lion palm, and the lion palm applications. I also did half decently with the hitting the pad bits. However the parts of the class I did good in was a small part of the overall class. During the search hands parts I started to wonder if I’m actually getting *worse* at Bagua. However I don’t think that could be logically possible. Many of the meetups have been very discouraging for me since I am always the slowest to catch onto stuff, but this class was one of the worst. I made a joke about needing remedial Bagua LOL.

So class lasted a couple of hours probably (it seemed more like 4 hours to my ankle), then I went for some nice hot tea and Pho soup with blogger13. He’s always fun and interesting to talk with :).

The bus rides back from the Pho place consisted of a lot of bad timing, which allowed me to get a little more practice in. 10 minutes of balancing on one foot while moving the other one around a lot, at Broadway skytrain. Then there was 20 minutes of QiGong, such as teacups etc. on Nanaimo street. I got the entire bus stop to myself for some reason.

Also before class started today I got about 10 minutes of QiGong in, mostly Fan Zhang.
