5 years, and I’m not so sure my circle walking has improved at all!

Post in Uncategorized

Each day I circle walk it feels like it’s my first day! Though, I do seem to recall insane amounts of ankle wobble which has mostly gone by the wayside. One day I will get awesome at circle walking :).

Of course I know the remedy for not amazing circle walking… and that of course is more circle walking! Actually, in my opinion, that is the remedy for everything Bagua; more circle walking.

It’s been a bit hot ouside lately, so taken up to circle walking in the basement lately. I know outdoors is better, but… indoors regularly is better than outdoors not quite getting around to it I figure. Accessibility ;).

Hope all the folks who actually still read this poorly neglected blog are also still circle walking, and if not are reminded how awesome it is.

I have been tempted to hit the gym again, but really there isn’t much that a good Bagua workout doesn’t cover.

You also get the added benefit of neigong with Bagua, which you don’t with a gym workout.

Ahhh finally cool enough out to practice again ;)

I did not practice any Bagua for the last week simply because it was too damn hot out to move, at all, whatsoever, even with every fan in the house going!

Tonight however was just perfect for Bagua :). The nice cool grass under our bare feet, a gentle breeze, and yet warm enough shorts and a tshirt was perfect. I’m glad the heat wave is over.

Somehow Bagua seems even more awesome when you come back to it after a short break :).

Still practicing Bagua :)

Circle walking mostly.

However writing, I haven’t been doing much of at all lately.

I’ve also been enjoying the medical qigong practice.

Circle walking during the spring is fun, perfect weather for it.

Happy back :)

Well not since the last couple of days as I screwed up my shoulder somehow, but now, now my back is joyously happy! 🙂

My shoulder was sore enough that we spent an hour and a half of the last class focusing on circle walking. My poor poor innocent student! 😉 Of course circle walking is extremely important, and you can never rally do to much of it…. Though currently my student may be hoping my shoulder heals really quickly :D.

Along with my ever so awesome rumble roller, I got a little spiky ball

Memories :)

I went to practice outdoors at the school this evening :). I had not done that alone in quite some time as I’ve been practicing indoors lately, or my back yard when doing staff work. Well I got there and realized how much I miss outdoor training! 🙂 When I first did it I didn’t like it in the bad weather, but now I love it. Apparently my teacher at the time had the same experience and now also really enjoys outdoor training.

So when I got there and started, all the memories and energy from training there for the past 3 1/2 years came flooding in! It was as if they were still there waiting for me, left behind with all of the sweat from practice each time. I really have put in a lot of hours in that same spot.

My practice was very enjoyable. I didn’t last as long as I would have liked, but I will work back up to it.

I missed my outdoor Bagua in my practice spot, and didn’t even realize it.

Everyone quick, go get a teacher :)

Teachers are good in the sense that they can tell from their own experience and what they have been taught, what sort of things will help to make your Bagua and/or qigong better. They can tell where you are at any given time, and give exercises and suggestions accordingly. They can also gear the class towards what is most needed to help you get to the next step and refine things. That whole energy transfer thing doesn’t hurt either ;).

Aside from me having the most awesome teacher in the entire history of teachers, what brought this up tonight is when my student thanked me for the corrections I gave him last week and told me how much that they have really helped his practice. Since he (obviously) doesn’t say this every week, I figure they were some extra good/useful ones. We had gone over posture, me correcting, then showing, then correcting then showing. So he got to see the changes that came about when I did the not as correct, then the more correct version of each thing. Then also the difference between his regular, and then after the corrections version. Bagua really is about angles sometimes! Well also the qi flows 10X better at certain angles and with certain alignments.

When he said this, I said I wonder how folks learn from books and vids…. though I do know they just video themselves, then do corrections from there. Then he said perhaps those work better when the student has already had a few teachers and a good number of years of experience…. So I asked him how long he has been doing martial arts for. 15 years :). He has also had 3 teachers (perhaps 4?) over that time. I can’t speak about the others, but the one teacher was most definitely the real deal and had some amazing stuff. Said teacher was also my grandteacher when I did another style of Bagua. He has also taken workshops with a quite famous and well renowned Bagua master. Yet still, there was some pointers that I could give which really helped, and noticeably improved his Bagua and qi flow. How awesome is that?! 🙂

Fortunately my Bagua training has been geared around how to teach others Bagua. That is the impression that my Bagua teacher had when he started training me, of how I should be trained. So to teach others, I just teach them how he teaches me, and the pointers he gives. Apparently they work quite well. I also go by intuition of what should be covered each class.

Also during class this evening, after a few corrections in our basic exercises (the ever so awesome foundation stuff) I noticed that halfway through, he suddenly got a lot better at them. As if he jumped up a level or something. It was pretty neat to watch. It makes me think that sometimes Bagua does that…. just works through us, then we get these times where our body and ourselves are ready to flow with things so much better.

I also had a few new insights this evening, which were lower dantien related, and I think will greatly hep my practice :).

Btw, Bagua is awesome! 🙂

PS, it was really cold out!

Smoothing things out a bit :)

Post in Uncategorized

I was practicing the other day, and suddenly increased the smoothness by quite a bit! Well OK it felt like quite a bit anyways. My Bagua was all stoppy starty before, which wasn’t quite right. My teacher was trying to say I needed more work on my Bagua, and I wasn’t sure which aspect, and I think that was it :). It definitely feels better now, and fortunately also feels like I am making some progress.

Also the other night, my student and I had the BEST Bagua class ever! It was on halloween actually, so even though the fireworks were a little distracting (lol) the amount of energy and insights were amazing. It was one of those things just click times, and I figured a few things out, then passed them onto my student.

I also love being able to help people to improve their Bagua :). While I’m at it, it also improves my Bagua!

Motivation, why hast though foresaken me?

Lately it seems as though I have to use every single last ounce of my willpower to get my practice done. This isn’t all the time, but it is most of the time. I guess one just gets periods of time like this. It is rather frustrating though. I really am trying to get from 1.5-2.5 hours of practice per day up to 4, I really am, but it just isn’t working :(. It is not as though I don’t have the free time, I just don’t seem to be able to make myself do it. Well that and the initial hour and a half – 2hours or so is difficult to make myself do as well. I have had to resort to some middle of the night qigong anytime insomnia hits when I procrastinate too much. Fortunately the qigong doesn’t seem to make me wide awake, and will sometimes help sleep after.

I’m still doing the beating and drumming the qi every single day. I only missed one day out of the past 5 weeks.

I get at least some Bagua in everyday, but far from as much as I should. I’m still working on that. Self motivation is not my strongest aspect.

It’s starting to get rather cold outside, and I keep being more inclined to practice indoors lately. Fortunately it’s still sunny out a good part of the time during the day, but now gets dark quite early.

Long soft grass and a sunny yard :)

Post in Uncategorized

Are the perfect places to practice Bagua! The grass is so soft and comfy when it hasn’t been cut for a month, but is still nice and dark green ;). I was also fortunate enough to catch the sunbeam right in my yard part of the day. Most of the day both my front and back yard are shady due to the darn neighbor’s houses lol, but for an hour or two there is a nice sunny spot in each. Of course bear feet are also required for this sort of practice. Highly recommended. If you don’t have a yard, just borrow a park, preferably one where they don’t cut the grass very often, for optimal squishyness.

I’m not so sure I will be able to do this with bear feet in about a month from now though, however, I have been noticing that my feet feel quite warm a lot of the time, and I get random heat in my feet. I figure this is from all the qigong I am doing, so perhaps I will be melting snow soon lol.

It’s nice to have time to train :)

Post in Uncategorized

I did feel sort of rushed before, to train enough before I saw my teacher next, train the huge pile of new stuff he gave me each time that is. I guess he noticed this last time, as I got barely any new stuff, and I won’t be training with him for at least 6 months. I really hope to see some improvement in my Bagua by then :). I do enjoy having more time to focus on each thing.

I haven’t been able to do my staff training though since my finger is still pretty messed up, darn. I hope to get some in again before I forget it all!

The medical qigong is coming along quite awesomely; I have treated 3 people so far, in 3 days. I mean aside from my teachers and classmates. It is interesting how different each person is. The first treatment for each person is kinda neat, since the most difference is made during that time, the most purging and also the most tonfication during that time. Also everyone agrees that yes, I do indeed have the most comfortable massage table in the history of all massage tables ;). Well I wasn’t going to get one of those really thin foam ones…..
